Angel Wings History
INterestingly enough the angels present in the Western bible never had wings. If you read inthe old or new testment the angels and seraphim where very much human like in every way. In fact they did not even have a pair of wings. However, they were always the bearer ofimportant new from God. They often came down to earth to spread an important message. Often apperaing in dreams or during times of deep prayer to people and giving some form of important advice.
However, somehwere early on in history artists including painters, stain glass artists and even calligraphers that created illuminated pages of the bible seemed to incorporate a pair of wings with the angels, speraphim and nymphs that came to earth. Why this was done or where it started has been lost in history but it can be seen almost everywhere.
In modern art this traditional of angel wings has continued. You really can no longer find an angelic bieng without a pair of white feathery wings. It could be that early artists just wanted to show an angels special powers and have some way to represent an angel as looking different then humans. Of course the ideas that Haven is somehwere above us in the clouds or way up in the sky in some magical place must've lead early artists to the conclusion that angels had to have some form of transportation between heaven and earth. This might have lead to the wide use of angel wings. Who knows how this really got all started but it is clear today anyone with a pair of wings must be a special being from God.

First Angel Wings Tattoo: Elayne Angel
Elayne Angel is known as the first person to have a full back tattoo of a pair f angel wings. She is credited with starting this trend having sported the orginal pair. She has a beautiful full back tattoo done in black ink of a pair of tattoo wings.
She has stated that she is more then happy that other people have also incorporated this design into their own tattoos. She states that she hopes however that people will not just simply copy her angel wings but instead make a creation of their own.
The Different Styles Of Angel Wing Tattoos
Angel wings tattoos can be done in a wide vareity of places and styles on the body. WHere you choose is really up to you and your own personal choice. After all it is you that will be wearing this tattoo for the rest of your life so it is important to chose a design location and style that you are happy with.
Traditional Feather Angel Wings
Probably the most tradtional of all angel wing tattoo styles are the feathered wings done ont he upper back or full back. These are typically done in black ink only and a kinds of feathery multi layered effect.
Tribal Tattoo Wings
Another popular option for wings tattoos is to have a more representative image of wings and a little less realistic looking. These tattoos can be done in a tribal tattoo style. Again these typically make use of grayscale and are done in black ink only. Yet don't let that stop you form adding beautiful colors and more details into your own tattoos.
Angel Wings Tattoos With Accessories
The other form of angel wing tattoos are not the tattoo by itself but instead an inporation of other symbols where angel wings are incorporated. For example a heart with a pair of wings is a very common theme for either a lower back tattoo or a chest tattoo.
You don't have to be stuck with these choices alone eaither. If you have your own idea of a free form angel wing tattoo design that you like then go for it. Anything that expresses your own unique individuality can make for a great tattoo. For example you might want a celtic angel wing tattoo design or something along the lines of a more colorful looking butterfly wings.

Typically wings that cover the whole back are expensive but smaller pieces lke the neck ones you mention are not that expensive. Depends on if you want the work custom design or just purchase some flash but either way small tattoos like a neck tattoo aren't typically that much. $50 to $100 or so.
I like this one im trying to find one that i like so i can get one and this one is just what ive been looking for

I've just started my pair of wings. i have a cross at the back starting from the neck. noow guys immagine that the wings are going behind the cross going down all the way of my back passing on the but and they do come infront on the side of my upper leg finishing near my crotch!!! when i finish it i'll just send a pic

I've designed several angel wing tattooes, but most of them seem to be meant for someone else. It's like I can draw it up for me each time, but it never comes out the way I want it to look for me. I usually wind up meeting someone that can see a meaning out of the drawings that fits them perfectly, but as for one that I can relate to, that I can find meaning in, I've yet to be satified. My back is a blank page that I'm dying to cover with beauty. On with the search.........

I love these angel wings tats. My boyfriend died in Feb. and so I decided to get angel wings on my foot to remind me of him. Me and my bestfriend were getting ideas since she is drawing it for me and these are amazing. I love them.
